Gonorrhea is an infectious venereal disease caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria. It can also be transmitted to infants delivered by vaginal birth. Women may not have any symptoms. Another lab study examined how this gram-negative bacterium establishes infection in mucous membrane cells. It turns out that gonorrhea bacteria use the inflammation they cause to stick to and infect the cells. ^(v.17)
